Pre-made Bag Machine vs Roll Film Packaging Machine‌-Which Should Food Factories Choose?

"For bagged products, why do some factories use pre-made bag packaging machines, while others use roll film packaging machines? Which one should I choose?" This is the soul-searching question many food factory procurement managers face when they first encounter automated equipment.

The two devices have similar names and look similar, but their usage is quite different. If you choose the wrong one, you either waste money or your efficiency will not improve. Today, I'll help you thoroughly distinguish which type of production line suits you from three dimensions: bag storage capacity, bag replacement time, and investment threshold.
Pre-made Bag Machine

First, understand the core differences

Pre-made bag packaging machine: uses pre-made finished bags (stand-up bags, zipper bags, three-side seal bags, etc.). The machine is responsible for opening, filling, and sealing. The bags are pre-made "empty bags" and are used directly on the machine.

Roll film packaging machine: uses roll film, with machines producing bags, cutting, filling, and sealing on the platform. Bags are made "fresh and used on the spot" from a single roll of film.

Simply put: one uses finished bags, the other makes bags using roll film.

Dimension 1: Bag storage capacity & bag change time

Pre-made bag packaging machine: bags are stacked and placed in the bag warehouse. The standard bag storage capacity is about 200-500 bags, depending on bag thickness and size. During high-speed production, the machine needs to stop for bag replenishment every 20-40 minutes (or equipped with dual bag warehouses to enable non-stop bag replacement). Each bag replenishment takes about 1-2 minutes.

Roll film packaging machine: A single roll of film is usually several hundred to over a thousand meters long, capable of continuously producing tens of thousands or even hundreds of thousands of bags. A single roll change is enough for continuous production for 8 hours or even a full day. Film change takes about 2-3 minutes, but the frequency is very low. Mingdian intelligent equipment’s seamless dual-bag warehouse switching technology enables bag replenishment without stopping the machine, which is especially suitable for companies producing in two shifts continuously.

Conclusion: Long-cycle continuous production and unattended night shift scenarios have obvious advantages in Roll film packaging machine. For multi-variety, small-batch, and frequently changing bag types, pre-made bag machines with dual bag warehouses are also acceptable.

Dimension 2: Investment threshold & operating costs

Pre-made bag packaging machine: The equipment structure is relatively simple, and the procurement threshold is low. Domestic entry-level prefabricated bag packaging machines cost about 30,000-80,000 yuan, while medium-high-speed models cost 100,000-200,000 yuan. However, there is an added cost to the operating cost: finished prefabricated bags are more expensive than rolled film. For the same material and size, the unit price of prefabricated bags is about 20%-40% higher than the converted cost of rolled film, due to the additional bag-making steps and transportation expenses.

Roll film packaging machine: Equipment prices are relatively high, with mainstream domestic bagging machines priced between 150,000 and 300,000 yuan, and imported ones more expensive. However, the film roll cost is lower, and during long-term mass production, the savings in packaging material costs quickly cover the equipment price difference. When annual usage exceeds 5 million bags, it is recommended to prioritize this calculation.

Conclusion: With limited initial budget and small annual output (for example, within a few million bags), pre-made bag machines are more user-friendly. With annual output in the tens of millions or even hundreds of millions of bags, although the machines for bag-type machines are expensive, the savings on film may pay off in just one year.

Dimension 3: Bag Shape Elegance and Flexibility
